Hilversum, 5 mei 2009. Op 15 mei 2009 verschijnt het nieuwe Gare du Nord album Love For Lunch op Blue Note Records. Dit nieuwe en inmiddels vijfde album is de opvolger van het met multi platinum bekroonde Sex ‘n’Jazz (2007) dat met hits als Marvin & Miles en Beautiful Day de brede doorbraak voor de band betekende. Sex ’n Jazz is momenteel met 85 weken het langst genoteerde album in de Nederlandse Album Top 100. Love For Lunch biedt 12 nieuwe originals geschreven door  Barend Fransen en Ferdi Lancee, oprichters en drijvende krachten achter Gare du Nord.  Daarnaast nam het duo een eigenzinnige bewerking op van het aloude Summertime, die naadloos aansluit bij de typische upbeat jazz-sound van La Gare. Onder de nieuwe tracks bevindt zich Come To The Ball, oorspronkelijk door het duo geschreven voor het 2008 comeback album Hurricane van Grace Jones.  “We wilden een track componeren die zou klinken als de soundtrack voor een James Bond-movie. Ik ben een 007 liefhebber en A View To A Kill uit 1985 met Grace als May Day is één van mijn favorieten. Veel van onze songs zijn gebruikt voor films en documentaires, waardoor de koppeling sound en vision  voor de hand ligt. Toen Dorona Alberti, onze zangeres, de demo voor Grace in zong, bleek ze het perfecte timbre voor de track te hebben. Dus besloten we de song zelf op te nemen; het is de opener van Love For Lunch en zet direct de filmische sfeer die het album kenmerkt neer”, zegt tekstschrijver Barend Fransen.
De van oorsprong Italiaanse zangeres Dorona Alberti speelt tevens een hoofdrol in de song Dish Of The Day, geïnspireerd op het werk en leven van kunstenaar Keith Haring.

Dish Of The Day is gecomponeerd rond Ferdi Lancee’s bluesrif  die de score van het duo voor de meest recente tv commercial van bierbrouwer Grolsch kenmerkt. “We kregen zoveel vraag naar die muziek voor Grolsch, dat we besloten er een nieuwe song omheen te bouwen”, aldus Lancee.
Love For Lunch leunt, meer dan voorheen, op de delta blues. Songs als  Call It Quits, Voodoo en het broeierige Poor Boy’s Blues #2, een aan debuutsingle Pablo’s Blues  refererende song met een glansrol voor de Amerikaanse zanger Elijah Newsome, verraden de liefde voor de global_language of the blues. De song Berlin Beat, met Dorona Alberti als chansonnière, werd opgenomen voor de documentaire film It’s The Going, Not The Gettin’ There, een road movie over de band die later dit jaar uitkomt.

vormgegeven  Spiderbra- artwork dat de filmische sfeer van de nieuwe songs passend visualiseert.

In de lente van 2001 werden producers Barend Fransen en Ferdi Lancee gevraagd door een Belgische promoter om de soundtrack te schrijven voor een  Fashion & Lifestyle Event in Brussel met de naam Excellence. In plaats van mee te liften op de louter soundscapes  van de opkomende lounge trend besloot het tweetal om verder te gaan dan alleen synths en beats. Ze componeerden in amper drie weken tijd een songcylce die uiting gaf aan hun eigentijdse interpretatie van traditionele jazz en blues. Deze soundtrack werd het met goud bekroonde debuutalbum van Gare du Nord, (in garedunord_search of) Excellounge. CD en single Pablo´s Blues werden lovend ontvangen door de muziekpers in Nederland, een land met een sterke traditie waar het het oppikken van nieuwe trends betreft. Het album, geschreven, opgenomen en geproduceerd in amper drie weken tijd, trok ook internationaal de aandacht. Pablo´s Blues en de opvolger Boogie All Night Long (Diskotèk) werden Europese hits en binnen drie maanden werd Excellounge worldwide uitgebracht met speciale Australische, Canadese Russische edities. Was het debuutalbum sterk Parijs georiënteerd, de opvolger Kind Of Cool  (2003) bevatte songs die ontstaan waren in Brussel, Memphis, Londen en Milaan. De titelsong, een groovende jazz track in de Miles Davis traditie, en Kind Of Cool´s key track Sold My Soul vonden hun weg naar de  soundtracks van Amerikaanse tv series en speelfilms.
Na een Russische Tour ( beide albums stonden in 2003 maandenlang op 1 en 2 in de Russische Contemporary Jazz Charts) werden de opnames gestart voor het derde album Club Gare du Nord dat in 2005 verschijnt. De mix van urban jazz, delta blues en groove dance vond op dit album zijn definitieve vorm, niet in de laatste plaats vanwege de samenwerking met Blue Note trompettist Erik Truffaz. Met veel aandacht voor de Steely Dan tribute track Go Back, Jack! startte Gare du Nord met zangeres Dorona Alberti en  7-koppige band een Live Tour, die de band sinds 2007 onafgebroken langs de Nederlandse podia voert. Ondertussen werd gewerkt aan het nieuwe album Sex ´n´ Jazz en aan de soundtrack voor Stout, het best selling boek van Heleen van Royen en Marlies Dekkers. Het album Sex ‘n’ Jazz, met bijdragen van Marvin Gaye en Paul Carrack, bleek de brede doorbraak van Gare du Nord; het album werd met goud onderscheiden in 2007, in 2008 werd de platina status bereikt en in mei 2009 ontvangt het duo een dubbel platina plaat.. Naar aanleiding van dit succes werden Fransen en Lancee door Blue Note Records gevraagd een serie mix-albums voor het legendarische label te produceren. De eerste ervan, Jazz In The City, met de hit Beautiful Day, is inmiddels met goud bekroond. Deze samenwerking resulteerde in een wereldwijde deal voor het nieuwe, vijfde album van La Gare, dat onder de titel Love For Lunch op 15 mei 2009 verschijnt.

The album Sex ‘n’Jazz , certified gold in october 2007, enjoys a 52 weeks stay in the Dutch Album Top 100 and is still going strong. The highest chart position, so far, is a stark number 10. Also, the mix album Jazz In The City released on Blue Note Records, continues it’s already 15 weeks stay in the charts. The hitsingle Beautiful Day is a real smash on Dutch Radio 2 with high rotation airplay and the status of Paradeplaat.

In the meanwhile, Gare du Nord’s Doc and Inca are working on a brand new album, set for release in the autumn of 2008.

The Sex ‘n’Jazz album, the first of a trilogy, offers 13 new originals and features guest performances by Italian singer Dorona Alberti, British pop/rock legend Paul Carrack and legendary soul singer Marvin Gaye (sampled). Among the new tracks is the soul blues track Ride On, written and recorded with singer-songwriter Paul Carrack. Also included is the track You’re My Medicine, written for  the new bio-pic Sexual Healing based on the life of legendary soul singer Marvin Gaye.  This track features the original vocal track from Marvin’s classic 1982 hit single Sexual Healing: it is the very first time for a European release that Sony/BMG New York has given the permission to use the original master track for a new song. Sex ‘n’ Jazz, the album, comes as a deluxe limited edition digipack with artwork designed by famous fashion designer Marlies Dekkers.

In the spring of 2001 Gare du Nord kicked off when producers Doc and Inca were asked by a French  promoter to deliver a soundtrack for a Fashion & Lifestyle Event in Brussels  called Excellence. Instead of going just for moody sounds and loungy atmospheres the twosome decided to go beyond synths and beats and they composed a song cycle to express their contemporary interpretation of traditional jazz and blues. The soundtrack for the event became the first Gare du Nord album; (in garedunord_search of) Excellounge (certified gold) and the single Pablo’s Blues were released to high critical acclaim in The Netherlands, a country that has a tradition when it comes to picking up new sounds and trends. That album, written, recorded and produced in just under three weeks generated a lot of international response too. In addition to a European release (both Pablo’s Blues and the second single Discotèk/Boogie All Night Long became hits) “Excellounge” was also released worldwide including several special editions in Australia, Russia and Canada. Was the first album largely Paris oriented, the second album Kind Of Cool (2003) took in just about the whole world with songs conceived in Brussels, Memphis, London and Berlin. The title song, a grooving jazz track in the Miles Davis mode and Kind Of Cool’s key track, the bluesy Sold My Soul, found it’s way to American tv documentaries, tv series and movies.

After a Russian tour in the slipstream of the second album the third Gare du Nord album Club Gare du Nord hit the streets by the end of 2005. With mucho radio airplay for the Steely Dan-tribute track Go Back, Jack! and very good reviews 2005’ Club Gare du Nord marked the return to the typical and non-traditional sound scape structure of (in garedunord_search of) Excellounge. Blue Note recording artist and trumpet player Erik Truffaz contributed to several tracks on the album. In 2006 Gare du Nord did tour The Netherlands with their live band presenting a melting pot of urban jazz, delta blues and groove dance à la Gare du Nord. In February 2007 Gare du Nord has delivered the soundtrack   for  the bestselling  book Stout, written by Heleen van Royen and Marlies Dekkers. The album Sex ‘n’Jazz is being followed by a Theatre Tour 2007/2008 in The Netherlands. In November 2007 Gare du Nord signs a contract with legendary jazz label Blue Note Records. A new mix album, Jazz In The City, is out now in The Netherlands and is highly acclaimed by the Dutch press.
